Top Apps to teach "Busy - Don't Interrupt"

Recently on our Facebook Fan Page we discussed apps and strategies to teach children that there are times we are busy and they must not interrupt.

Beck asked: "What's a good app to teach kids how to recognize when an adult is busy and not to interrupt?"

Below are the ideas that our community has shared.

Choiceworks by Bee Visual, LLC

From Laura:
"The Choiceworks app has a waiting board visual! Complete with timer and two visual choices for appropriate things to do while waiting/not interrupting."

From iTunes:
"The Choiceworks app is an essential learning tool for helping children complete daily routines (morning, day, & night), understand & control their feelings and improve their waiting skills (taking turns and not interrupting). Created with the support of leading hospitals and child development specialists, this app is designed for caregivers to provide clear and consistent support to foster a child’s independence, positive behavior, and emotional regulation at home and in the community. It can also be customized for teachers in a school setting. "

Conover Company Apps

From Katie:
"I LOVE the Conover Company apps. They have a manners app, social skills, etc."

From the Conover Company website:
"All of Conover's mobile applications are built around the concept of video-modeling. We’ve been developing instructional videos as part of our Functional Skills System for over 15 years, and have a video library of over 4,500 videos to choose from.

Our newest applications also tap into the inherent ability of the iPad and iPod touch to allow the user to record their own videos right in the application for self-video modeling, making the process of generalizing the concepts much more efficient."

The Interrupt Rule: how to respectfully interrupt an elder,
by Allison Hendrix of The House of Hendrix

"Here’s how it works: When two adults are talking and a child needs to interrupt, they simply put their hand on their parents arm or shoulder. The child waits patiently without speaking.
