Explore the World With A Touch of Your Finger

Explore the World without leaving your home

Does that sound too good to be true? Leave behind the worries of packing heavy suitcases and explore this beautiful app. Be prepared to engage and learn about different places all around the globe while listening to narratives and culturally diverse music. You may start by spinning the globe in circles and randomly choose places to visit or you may decide on a place to go and find it on the globe. Once in a country, you can find out interesting facts and information as well as view animated icons and gorgeous pictures of cultural icons. From the kangaroos of Australia to the alpacas of South America - you won't want to stop investigating the world we live in.

No ads or in-app purchases, but their is a button that allows you to email, facebook or review the app

As the adult, I don't want to put this app down. I've seen the gorgeous book that Barefoot Books publishes, but this app is truly made for the current generation. As a person sets the globe spinning, watch countries zoom by in vivid color. The app user can choose to "visit" any of the countries. Click on one and a screen pops up where information can be viewed, such as capital city, current temperatures, population information and so much more. As the app user zooms into the country, they may see a landmark or an animal who inhabits the region. Click on them and read or listen to a narrative as well as view still life photography. The entire time the person is traveling the globe, there are sounds of nature in the background and culturally appropriate music to serenade your travels.

Little Miss M struggles with seeing the world outside her box. She equates Paris with Jupiter, in that she believes she can travel to both locations. This app offers me an amazing opportunity to show my daughter the world around her. She loves calling out names of places she's seen in cartoons and then helping me to find them using direction words.

The app itself is gorgeous, the graphics are impressive and exciting, but what I really loved the most was that it's based on a book. This meant that I could expand the uses of this atlas in so many different arenas. Whether we're taking a trip, or a relative is away - Little Miss M can now make a connection with a space that was previously unattainable to her. We've tried pulling out maps, but our technology loving daughter would rather wrap presents in them! This app is a wonderful tool to have in our forever growing toolbox.

From Itunes:

Barefoot World Atlas is a magical interactive 3D globe that invites children to explore the regions and countries of the world, discovering hundreds of fascinating features and immersing themselves in the rich wonders of our planet. This is a multi-language, universal app for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. The rich and beautifully detailed graphics take full advantage of the amazing new high definition retina screen.

Geographer and BBC TV presenter Nick Crane is your guide, as you fly at will around a beautiful 3D globe created by artist David Dean. Explore the world’s continents, great oceans and changing environments. Meet different people around the planet and find out about their way of life. Encounter amazing wildlife, discover landmarks, natural features and famous buildings.

This is an interactive atlas for the digital age. This engaging and educational app vividly communicates how all parts of our world are interconnected and reveals some of the ideas and initiatives that are helping to shape a sustainable future. Young children will delight in playing with the 3D globe and exploring its features; while older children can delve deeper to discover a wealth of facts and insights including live data for every country from Wolfram|Alpha.

Barefoot World Atlas is the result of a year-long partnership between award-winning children’s publisher Barefoot Books, and Touch Press, the people behind numerous Apps of the Week including The Elements, Solar System for iPad and March of the Dinosaurs.
