I have an autistic daughter who is 9 years old and she loves listening to music on my phone all the time.  It helps calm her down when she is having a meltdown.  Is there any free, if possible, apps that are for autistic kids that teach through music?

Non-App Suggestions:

Jessica replied:  Look into the SoListen program.  Through an occupational therapy program.  It is music therapy.

Wendy mentioned:  Listening Program... helps with attending and listening.

Everyday Grooves

Sarah said:  Everyday grooves is fantastic.
From iTunes:
Using Everyday Grooves is simple - the app helps users set up musical prompts throughout the day to help children transition to new activities. When the music starts, turn the volume up so your child can hear and sing along. Or, just play the songs when it is convenient for you!

Each piece is an original song in the style of popular music on the radio, and lyrically walks families through suggested steps for the routine.

SlowTunes

Brian suggested:  If you have an iPhone or other iOS device, take a look at SlowTunes.

From iTunes:
SlowTunes is a simple music player that lets you slow down your favorite songs without changing the pitch. You can...

- Add songs from your music library.
- Play songs at three simple speeds: normal, slower and slowest.
- Configure just how slow you want each speed.
- Stream songs to your AppleTV over AirPlay.
- Play SlowTunes in the background while you do other things.

I made SlowTunes for my beautiful daughter who has Childhood Apraxia of Speech. She loves music, but she has a hard time keeping up with some of her favorite songs. Now she can sing along at her own pace without making the songs all chipmunky.

It turns out SlowTunes works great for anybody, whether you're a kid with a speech delay or an adult who just wants to learn a new song.
