Writing Wizard -- Kids Learn to Write Letters and Words

With one child in kindergarten learning to write and the other in 2nd grade getting deductions for bad handwriting, I have been very focused on handwriting apps recently. It is not often that I find an educational app that both my children fight to play next. Writing Wizard -- Kids Learn to Write Letters and Words has lots to offer kids with a great balance between fun and learning. There are many handwriting apps available, but this one strikes a playful balance between education and enjoyment.

All kids seem to take to handwriting with a wide range of difficulty. Some continually struggle, while others pick it up fairly quickly. Writing Wizard has something to offer to kids at all skill levels. With light, non-intrusive music, reward-driven sound effects and playful celebratory animated letter games, the app motivates the child to continue with their practice.

In the default mode, each letter is shown, said aloud and then pronounced. Then, a short animation demonstrates how the letter is formed, and the child is shown where to begin tracing. Upon successful completion, one of 4 games is available where children can play with the letter.  All of the steps are customizable, including how long the child is allowed to play the letter game.

This app is highly customizable. There are three different font choices and five modes with increasing difficulty. The five modes are customizable in themselves, so adults can fine tune and challenge children to be the most beneficial.

One huge feature to this app is the opportunity to trace words. The app comes preloaded with over 30 three-letter words as well as the ability to build your own lists. This can help reinforce sight words as well as spelling words the children may be working at in school.  This feature also allows the child to be able to practice writing their own name.

Parents and teachers will love the detailed reports available. They can see what kids have done, including the ability to replay and export the tracings to view kids' progress. Unlimited user profiles are available to easily track multiple children.

Many apps find it difficult to balance educational benefit with engaging entertainment for children. Writing Wizard is a perfect blend of the two.
