Good Free App of the Day: Disney Creativity Studio

Little Miss M has become fascinated lately with how her shows are created. Are they drawn? Are they computer made? Are they clay? The questions hit us at the start of every show. So, when she found Disney Creativity Studio for FREE, I instantly agreed to let her download it.

I was pleasantly surprised to find how much the app could do. From coloring Disney scenes to actually learning to draw the beloved characters, I was entertained for hours. There is a special stylus that can be purchased from the app store to supposedly enhance play, but it's $40, and I was able to enjoy the app with the touch of my finger.

If you want to download Disney Creativity Studio (Free, iPad Only), please support Smart Apps for Special Needs by clicking on our button:

Expansion packs for different characters can be purchased in the app. External links lead to the Disney web site and app developers.

What is free: All activities for Mickey and Friends and limited activities for additional characters to trial.
What is not free: All activities for additional characters

First, I chose to color a picture of Mickey and Minnie. I was able to adjust the size of my crayon or pencil, add stickers and frames, and save my picture. Then, I played some Connect-the-Dots and did some tracing too. My favorite activity was the "Learn to Draw" section. Each picture is displayed in a step-by-step manner. You trace each of the steps, and then you can remove the lines and see what picture you were able to create. I was impressed by myself!

The free pack includes all activities for Mickey and Friends. Monsters University, Doc McStuffins, Disney Princesses, Minnie Mouse, Minnie's Bow-Tique, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, and Sofia the First are all available as a trial. Players can only do limited activities within these new characters however and each character's pack costs $0.99.

This app works with your finger, so I have to assume it works with any stylus. If you are training a child to use a stylus or trying to inspire someone to embrace writing or work on fine motor skills, this app will definitely work, especially if they are a fan of anything Disney. The response time was pretty good, I just struggled with the smaller spaces that required a fine point to reach.

Overall, I had a lot of fun drawing, coloring and creating with this app. I haven't decided whether to purchase the expansion packs or not; it will depend on how the girls respond to the FREE version and which characters they really want.
