Bedtime Math: A Free App Designed to Instill a Love of Math in Your Children

I'm a speech-language pathologist and my husband is an English teacher. Instilling a love for books and language in our children came pretty easily for us. We didn't do such a great job of helping them love math. I wish the Bedtime Math Foundation had been around when my kids were little. This foundation is a non-profit organization committed to helping kids love math. Their website is full of great ideas for family activities that make math fun and accessible to children of all ages. You can sign up for daily e-mails, watch funny videos or even download math-related Lego fun.

They also have a free app called Bedtime Math that incorporates a math problem into a fun little story each day. There are three difficulty levels so the app can be used for variety of ages. Combine reading and math together in an engaging activity for the whole family.

If you would like to download Bedtime Math (FREE, iPhone/iPad 2x), please support Smart Apps for Special Needs by using the link provided:

Bedtime Math offers a fun story each day that incorporates a math question in a meaningful and relevant way. You can choose to do the question of the day, explore past Bedtime math stories or choose "surprise" and let the app pick a random story. Each Bedtime story has three levels of questions including: Wee Ones, Little Kids, and Big Kids. There are no set age ranges and the developer encourages parents to try different levels to see which one is the best fit for your child. Some of the questions have a "Sky's the Limit" challenge question designed for older kids/adults.

Each Bedtime Story is also categorized by topic. It allows you to sort by topic so you can truly customize the stories to your child's interests. There are 11 different categories featuring a variety of topics including: food, holidays, vehicles and more. This app engages the whole family in fun and learning.

 From iTunes:
Parents know to read to their kids at night, but what about math? Our mission is simple: to make math a fun part of kids' everyday lives, as beloved as the bedtime story. Choose the Math Problem of the Day, or explore over 400 additional math problems with various zany topics, ranging from electric eels and chocolate chips to roller coasters and flamingos. Each has three levels of challenge ("Wee Ones," "Little Kids," and "Big Kids"), and many also have harder questions ("The Sky's the Limit") for really big kids, grown-ups, and anyone who's feeling brave!

Bedtime Math gets kids jazzed about numbers. It's nothing like school. Make it a part of your family's routine today!

Sarah is very thankful for her calculator app because she would be in big trouble without it.
