Charades! Great Free App for learning concepts, communication skills and so much more - the possibilities are huge

Have you ever played charades? It's so much fun, right? What if you could use charades to teach vocabulary words, historical concepts or emotions? These sometimes mundane tasks are instantly transformed into entertaining and engaging activities. I found a really great free app with an incredibly long name, but it's still wonderful! Charades! Guess Words and Draw or Doodle Something Taboo Tilt Your Heads Jump Up with Friends Free has a lot of its own categories and games, but my favorite customization is creating your own deck of cards. I created an animal deck and one centered around various emotions.

Yes, there are ads but for $0.99, you can get rid of them! I really enjoy this app because it breaks that electronic zone-out that my kids sometimes seem to get. They cannot play unless they engage with another individual. Some of the categories are a little too advanced for my girls (ages 2,5, and 8) but the fact that you can create your own decks makes this app very valuable in my opinion.

We are working on emotions everyday in this house. There are a lot of great apps out there that allow the student to watch emotions played out for them, but I created a deck with terms like (sad, mad, excited) and instead of just watching the emotions, the player must act them out, thereby internalizing the concept.

I like apps that encourage communication and interactions that go beyond the screen. I'm also thinking this could be a great tool in the classroom for various concepts in history or geometry or science. I actually think, due to the complex simplicity or the app, the user can get so much learning out of it.

Amanda is always trying to act things out with her girls, but convincing them to keep the answer a secret usually proves more challenging.
