Featured App: OctoPlus makes addition fun and engaging!

I don’t know about y’all, but in our house it seems that we can never have enough apps that help us practice our math skills. OctoPlus is our latest download. It’s a game that does what I love…it sneaks a lot of great educational content in while your kids are having fun playing it. With loads of options in the settings and multiple levels of play, this app is a winner for kids of multiple ages and learning levels.

If you would like to purchase OctoPlus ($0.99, iPhone/iPad), please use the handy link below so they’ll know who sent you.

We started off in the “drill” mode where we were asked to pick a number. Our goal next was to help the octopus “ink” the turtles with the corresponding number on their back. So we weren’t only practicing our math skills, we were also working on hand-eye coordination and some pretty challenging timing skills. There are three skill levels available and ten goal numbers to add up to.
The “challenge” mode has us practicing our math skills again, this time solving addition problems on the fly then choosing the correct position for our octopus to launch his ink from by using the answer from our math problem. This mode gets a little more challenging, but there are still multiple levels of difficulty that span broad ranges of abilities.
Parents and teachers can set multiple options to keep kids interested and challenged while playing. This app is also switch-accessible, giving parents and teachers the ability to help children reach IEP goals. As levels are completed and stars are earned, little learners are able to “purchase” cute characters along the way as rewards.
I think my little princess will be practicing her math skills over her upcoming Spring Break using OctoPlus.

From iTunes:
Introducing OctoPlus, a gaming app that makes math addition fun and engaging for kids. Based on a math adaptation of Turtle Invaders, a 2014 Gold Winner of the Mom’s Choice Award for Best in Family-Friendly Products, OctoPlus places you in an underwater aqua world where you have to battle turtles to score points. OctoPlus reinforces key math skills within an interactive gaming environment. With both a drill and challenge mode, children’s math skills are improved based on their own individual learning ability. OctoPlus is also designed to enhance motor skills for young children and kids with motor or cognitive delays. With a phenomenal ability to set options, this app will keep kids motivated and engaged. The app is designed to improve visual attention, timing, coordination and control. Parents can also use this switch-accessible app to reinforce Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
